◆ FROM THE DESK
Welcome back. There is no new episode this week, so this issue is short and practical. The big item is Node-RED Con 2026, which runs today (Tuesday 3 November, 14:00–20:00 GMT) with Phil hosting — details below, and registration is free. We also have one standards item worth your comments before the end of the month, and a pointer back to last week’s EP61 with Klaus Landsdorf if you have not listened yet.

◆ CATCH UP ON THE PODCAST

Ep. 61 — Open Source at Industrial Scale: Node-RED, Modbus, and the IIoT Future
Klaus Landsdorf, CEO of Iniationware and creator of PLUS for Node-RED (P4NR), first looked at Node-RED in 2015 as a favour. He found gaps in Modbus queue timing that made existing packages unsafe for real industrial environments, so he rebuilt the package from scratch — with a rule he has held ever since: no release ships below 92% code coverage.
In this conversation with Phil and Ed:
• Why industrial software demands a different quality standard
• ISA-95 as a 30-year framework that already describes what “unified namespace” and “edge computing” are reaching for
• The open-source sustainability model behind P4NR, and how AI is being used in its development today
“ISA-95 is over thirty years old, but it brings together everything that exists today.” — Klaus Landsdorf
This episode is brought to you by Canary Labs and Cirrus Link Solutions.

OT SECURITY · STANDARDS
NIST opens comments on SP 800-82 Revision 4, its Guide to OT Security
NIST has published the initial public draft of SP 800-82r4, its Guide to Operational Technology (OT) Security, and the comment period is open through 30 November. It is the reference many plant and controls teams point to when they build an OT security programme, so if your site relies on it, now is the time to read the draft and tell NIST what works and what does not.

◆ COMMUNITY & EVENTS

Node-RED Con 2026 is on today — Phil is hosting
The free online conference runs Tuesday 3 November 2026, 14:00–20:00 GMT — that is overnight for us in Australia (midnight to 6am AEST, Wednesday 4 November), but a good one for readers in Europe and the Americas. This year’s theme is Node-RED at the Edge of Intelligence, with 10+ talks on edge deployments, AI integration and industrial automation. Phil is hosting. A correction to last week’s issue: we called it a Monday, and it is a Tuesday.
